Larry Fink: Sensual Empathy” at the Center for Photography at Woodstock

MUUS Collection is thrilled to continue our partnership with the Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) to exhibit Larry Fink: Sensual Empathy, first presented by MUUS at Paris Photo 2024. Curated by Lucy Sante, the exhibition includes works from Social Graces as well as civil rights and jazz imagery, accented by selected poems and musings of Fink’s.

Sensual Empathy functions as a survey of Fink’s life and work with images spanning his career, and pays tribute to one of the great humanist photographers, who described his work as “political, not polemical.” The exhibition focuses on Fink’s identity as an empathetic photographer; as Sante writes, “All of those circumstances engaged his rapid eye, his almost painterly chiaroscuro, and his identification with the human beings he photographed, good, bad, or ugly.”

Sensual Empathy follows the success of another MUUS exhibition exhibited by CPW, Pride and Protest: Photographs by Fred W. McDarrah, first presented by MUUS at Paris Photo 2023. Pride and Protest has since traveled to The New York Historical. Sensual Empathy will be on view from May 24 until August 31, 2025.
