The MUUS Collection is excited to announce its acquisition of The Semple Portfolio of Notable Women. The archive, assembled in the 1920s by American publisher and author James Alexander Semple, includes signed letters and photographs of prominent women in the United States in the early twentieth century.
The women—suffragists, doctors, writers, philanthropists, educators, actresses—were to be included in a book titled ‘Representative Women in America.’ While the book never materialized, the expansive archive thankfully survives a century later to tell the stories of these pioneering women. Stay tuned for more on this exceptional archive.
